My Makeup List To Beat The Heat

Hey all!

I am super excited for SoulScape next Saturday which is a yoga festival held in Sentosa! There will be a wonderful line up of local and regional yoga instructors hosting various workshops both on land and sea! There is also a music festival at night which features world musical performances. In short, it is going to be an exciting day! For more information regarding Soulscape, click here and here.

Of course, an entire day in the hot sun meditating, stretching and flexing will definitely put your makeup to the test. Sure, many people dislike having makeup on while working out but then again there are others (like me) who just likes to look cute while doing so (you feel me?). Besides, who knows if there is gonna be a hot yoga instructor or lifeguard, am I right. *winks*

If you know that you're going to be in the sun for a long time, try to incorporate as much cream products into your makeup routine that day as they tend to last longer than powder products which just sit on your skin. To extend the longevity even more, apply a powder product over these creams (i.e. powder blush over your cream blush) and you're pretty much set. I use this technique all the time for outdoor photo shoots and it hasn't let me down thus far.

So here's my list of makeup for the day itself!

Kiehl's Ultra Light Daily UV Defense Sunscreen
Never. Forget. Sun protection. Many a times, most of us tend to skip sunscreen or rely on the sun protection provided in our foundations/BB creams. I used to make this mistake as well. It was not till recently when I went for a skin analysis and realised how badly my skin was faring in the UV department. Sun spots and pigmentation were piling up under my skin (even though I can't see it).
From that day onwards, I've been slathering sunscreen and protecting myself. You should too.

I love the texture of this sunscreen, it is lightweight and absorbs into the skin really quickly. My makeup sits atop of it really nicely, with no streaking or patchiness. This has a good protection spectrum, with SPF 50 and PA++++ so you're gonna be pretty well covered! It is an overall good sunscreen to have, whether you are going to put makeup atop it or not. You can read my full review on this sunscreen here.

Nivea Men AfterShave Balm (Sensitive)
I know, you're like say what now? This stuff has been introduced by Nikkie Tutorials sometime back and I decided to try it out when I saw it in Berlin. Due to its high content of glycerin, this acts wonderfully as a primer as it just grabs and hold onto your foundation all day. You need this on a hot day (so basically, everyday in Singapore), trust me. Adding this to my makeup routine would ensure that my foundation stays on all day without turning splotchy or patchy.

Givenchy Teint Couture Balm
This ultra lightweight foundation is great for those sweaty days as it does not feel heavy/mask like on the skin. It helps to even out my skin tone and hide some of my imperfections while letting my skin breathe at the same time. I definitely like to reach for this on days where I want to perfect my complexion without looking cakey. Full review and swatches to come soon!

Anastasia Beverly Hills DipBrow Pomade
This pomade has stood the test of all time. I wore this for kickboxing some time back and at the end of every class (after I've sweated out buckets), my brows are still on and looking good. So yes, a definite product to include here. This product does not budge. Besides, you guys know how important eye brows are to me. I need them brows.

Maybelline Colour Tattoo
I use this all the time on clients, regardless if it is an indoor or outdoor photoshoot as this colour tattoo really does last for a long time on the lids. I tend to use this as a base for eyeshadow to intensify it. However, for soulscape, I'm planning to keep it light and natural so I'm just planning to add this to the lids for a wash of colour. My favourite shade has to be Bad to the Bronze. Note: do not blend it up too high especially if you have asian monolids as it tends to close up the eyes and give the appearance of being punched (especially if you're using a dark colour!).

Clinique Chubby Stick in Curvy Contour
I got this recently but I have been obsessed with it. This is really creamy and easy to blend on the skin! I like to use this around the outsides of the face as well as under my cheekbones to add back some definition to the face (as foundations/BB creams tend to cancel it out). This shade isn't too orange for me either, which is great. Some cream bronzers do have more of an orange tint to it and has the tendency to make me look like an oompa loompa.

Quick tip here, some people ask me what is the ultimate purpose of bronzers. Now base products (foundations/BB creams) tend to remove the natural shadows on your face and could make you look washed out. Using a little bronzer to warm the outsides of your face as well as the areas under the cheekbones tend to make the whole look more natural and less mask-like as it adds back some depth and definition. Try it and see the difference yourself! Just make sure your bronzer isn't too orange in tone. Also, bronzers are to warm up your face and not meant to use for contouring as the shades tend to be on the warmer side.

Kiko Highlighter Stick
Sticking to cream products, I love to just swipe this on the top of the cheekbones and the inner corners of my eyes to add some radiance and glow to my skin. This step is optional, of course. I just love the glow.

RMS Cream Blush
Again, cream products. They just blend into the skin and last longer, in my opinion. This blush is a gorgeous warm coral and I just dot it onto my cheeks and blend it with my ELF small stipple brush. Viola, I look alive and healthy.

Essence Get Big! Lashes Waterproof Mascara
I cannot rave enough about this mascara. It makes my lashes voluminous and adds a good amount of length. It holds the curl really well as well. Basically, a saviour to my short and straight asian lashes. This does not smudge nor flake on me either, which is a definite plus.

K Palette 24H Liquid Eye Liner
My holy grail liquid liner of all time. The brush tips makes application so easy and fuss-free and the colour is an intense black (which I am totally a fan of). Lasting power is phenomenal and a must for any hot-day makeup look.

Luscious Cosmetics Signature Lipstick in shade 13
This lipstick is really moisturising and feels comfortable on the lips. I always reach for this to add some colour back to my lips without going overboard as this shade is a gorgeous peachy nude! Lasting power is really great too, so the need to touch up is greatly reduced - a definite necessity during soulscape as nobody got the time to retouch their lipstick while doing yoga!

Of course not forgetting some body shower gel and lotion to clean up and moisturize after! I'm especially loving the Neal's Yard Frankincense and Mandarin Organic Body Collection to perk up after a good work out!

Hope this list helped you in some way and if you'll be at Soulscape then I shall see you there! XO.
