Review and Swatches of Colourpop Golden State of Mind and The Yin to My Yang

I couldn't help myself when Colourpop Cosmetics had a 20% off recently and I made a few purchases.

I've been eyeing the Golden State of Mind Palette (USD 26) for a while so I took the opportunity to snatch it up this time round. Duo chrome products have also been on my radar for a while now, ever since Kat Von D launched the Alchemist Holographic Palette, so I got myself most of the eyeshadows from The Yin to My Yang Eyeshadow Set (USD 4 each) and the Super Shock Shadow in Sunbeam (USD 5) from The Little Pony Collection too. Had to add in the No Filter Concealer (USD 6) and Boss Brow Gel (USD 6) into cart before I checked out as well.

Colourpop is not a pricey brand to begin with and with the 20% off, it's really affordable considering the quality. I do really love majority of their items!

The Golden State of Mind Palette is a full shimmer and glitter eyeshadow palette, containing 25 shades. I do find that the shades are pretty chunky due to the glitter, so applying the shades with your finger works way better than using a brush. I do find that many of these shades do lean more towards being glitter top coats instead, as the glitters are more obvious as compared to the base shades.

Next, we have the single eyeshadows from The Yin to My Yang Collection. These are all stunning. I only got 4 out of the 6 shadows from the set as I didn't need another matte black shade and the shade Dragonfly just didn't really interest me. These are new duo chrome shades for fall and I am really in love, especially with the shade Glassbull which is a lavender icy-blue. I definitely have to do an eyeshadow look with that! These shades are creamy and they applied really nicely on the lids. Pigmentation is superb and the intensity of the duo chrome is strong enough to be seen with just one layer. I also got a random single eyeshadow Rosé All Day which is a lovely metallic olive green-gold.

I also could not resist the Sunbeam Super Shock Shadow from The Little Pony Collection. This immediately caught my eye when it was launched (as anything purple does) so I was really excited to play with this. According to the website, this is a pastel lavender shade that contains violet, hot pink and icy blue glitter. When applied, I'd say that it is true to description and the different shades of glitter that is incorporated into this shadow really does stand out. Super gorgeous shade and I already have plans to wear this for an upcoming Christmas party.

Lastly, I gotta say that I am amazed by the coverage of the No Filter Concealer. I wasn't sure of my shades and I got Light 20 and Medium 30. Light 20 matched my skin tone more and provided a subtle highlight and I'm NC25. Medium 30 was a tad too dark for me. This is definitely full coverage in my opinion - I was just playing around and applied it to my undereye area without my peach corrector. Man, my dark circles were close to being nonexistent. I still have to play around with it more but I did find that this concealer leans to a thicker consistency and does take some effort to blend out. I like to use my fingers as the warmth from them helps in thinning the product out and melting it into the skin. Many people have compared it to the Urban Decay Naked Skin Concealer, but I personally think that it resembles the Tarte Shape Tape more due to its coverage and consistency. Two caveats though, I did find that this oxidised a little darker after application and it looks best when applied on moisturised and hydrated skin.

I have not tried the Boss Brow Gel out yet so I can't give my thoughts on it currently. I'll update the blog should I enjoy it!

Hope the swatches were useful! Since it's cyber weekend, Colourpop is having pretty good sales and you can consider picking these up if you're interested.

What other products would you recommend from Colourpop Cosmetics?

Till then,
