Makeup Essentials! Makeup Brushes Series

By Sarah - Saturday, March 15, 2014

Hey guys! Today I wanna dive into the amazing world of makeup brushes. I will be starting a series where I will post about the various types of makeup brushes which any makeup enthusiast or just anyone who uses makeup should have. I will seperate them into different categories such as foundation brushes, concealer brushes, blush brushers and so on. Yeah, you get the deal. So please stay tuned!

Ok, let's get started. For those of you who have heard people telling that you don't need any makeup brush to apply makeup, please don't listen to them. Yes, you can apply some aspects of makeup without a makeup brush. But it is not the proper way of doing so and you probably won't be getting the results which you should be obtaining. Why? Lemme give you a few reasons.

  1. Makeup brushes are your tools for constructing your face. It's like trying to build a house without any tools - it doesn't work. Having the right tools will result in the finished product (aka your beautiful face) to look better.
  2. Why splurge on makeup when you are not fully maximising the potential of the products?
  3. Your fingers have tons of bacteria on them so you shouldn't be going all gung-ho on your face with them (if you know what I mean).
  4. Makeup isn't finger painting!

I know that it can be intimidating when you are a beginner to see so many different types of makeup brushes, different shapes, sizes and colour of the bristles etc. To be honest, back when I wasn't knowledgable about makeup yet, all makeup brushes look like fluffy and soft rabbits' butts which I cannot wait till I'm old enough to play with (yes, butts). Now I know better, and yes, I love to play with it. If you go onto youtube and watch makeup gurus, it is not rare to see them owning like 30 makeup brushes. No, you do not need that many to achieve a complete face. I looked through my collection to see what brushes I use on a daily basis and I have came up with a list of essential makeup brushes for you lovely people.

Here goes.

You should get at least one brush out of each category:

Face brushes
  1. Foundation brushes
  2. Concealer brushes
  3. Powder brushes
  4. Blush Brushes
  5. Bronzing/contouring brushes (if you do bronze and contour your skin!)

Eye brushes
  1. Shader brushes
  2. Blending brushes
  3. Precise application brushes (for detailed work if you are into that!)
  4. Angled brushes

Please stay tuned for my individual posts about these! It will be published one at a time as I want to provide as much information for you guys and if I squeeze it all into one..... you guys probably stop reading halfway through.

To access all the posts regarding this topic of makeup brushes, I will create a drop menu soon so it will be easier to access. For now, please do look for it under the makeup essentials category!

Thanks guys! :) XO.
