Review | Too Faced The Return of Sexy Palette

By Sarah - Friday, June 06, 2014

I know that I have tons of makeup but my lack of self control is just downright embarrassing. Very recently, Sephora had their 20% off all items sale for members and despite me really not needing anything, I went and spent more cold hard cash. What did I get? I purchased... the Too Faced The Return of Sexy Palette.
(sometimes I wish I had more self control)

Ok, back to the palette! This palette is part of their permanent collection (I believe) and it comes with 15 eyeshadows, a full sized Perfect Eyes Eyeliner in Perfect Black and a deluxe 5g sample of the Too Faced Shadow Insurance. The 15 eyeshadows are organised into 3 sections based on different colour combinations, specifically designed for the creation of looks inspired by some beauties from the past till present! They are: The Ingénue (chic neutrals), The Icon (girly pinks and plums) and The Bombshell (classic smokey greys).

The black sturdy plastic packaging is a plus, great for travelling or just plain clumsy people like myself! With the gold fonts and embossed vintage floral designs, it's really hard to resist. Really. Comes with a good sized mirror as well! In addition, there are 3 how-to cards slotted behind the mirror to provide you with ideas and steps on how to effortlessly create a look with each individual sections. I like that there is a specific section for these, as usually I will just toss mine away as the how-to cards just kinda hang around. These will be safe and sound ;)
The Perfect Eyes Eyeliner is really amazing too. This pencil is really black (blacker than Urban Decay's Zero and on par with Perversion) and pigmented. Super creamy as well, so it does not tug on your lids or waterline. Once it sets, it does not budge. Thumbs up! Loving this more than my Urban Decay 24/7 liners already.
The Too Faced Shadow Insurance works really well on priming those lids and helping the eyeshadows to appear more vibrant! I tested this with my poorly pigmented H&M Shadows and I'm pretty darn impressed. Sneaky marketing gimmick but they got me. I might purchase the full size of this soon. This primer is creamier in formulation as compared to the Urban Decay Primer Potions and blends slightly easier and quicker. A little goes a long way and it is a good neutral base so you can use this with any possible eye look!
The eyeshadows are *caution!* all shimmery or glittery. There are no mattes here so for those of you who love matte looks, this ain't gonna be the palette for you. However, even though all the shades here are shimmery, you do not look like you have a disco party happenin' on your eyes. It isn't glitter overload. Personal preference though, I like to have a matte transition shade and browbone highlight shade so I have to pull out another palette or other singles to get a complete look. This isn't difficult to do, but more of a hassle especially if you're rushing for time in the morning.
Do I regret this? Nope. These shadows are really soft and pigmented. When I swatched it in the store, it felt like butter. Pigmentation is really great for most of the shades. The ones that are ever so slightly lacking are 7 Year Itch and Beautymarked. Slighty. These shadows are very soft and creamy in texture so be careful not to dip your brush too hard into the shadows as there may be some fall out! But then again, nothing a good brush tapping can't solve.
Colour variation is excellent for those of you who do not own tons of eyeshadows or palettes. The 3 sections enable you to have access to neutral browns and golds, purples and greys. Colours that everyone should have in their makeup repertoire as they are basic and classic! You can create quite a lot of looks from mixing and matching the colours as well! However, I do own a lot of eyeshadows and these colours are not unique in my opinion. I probably have that gold in another palette and that purple in another. Not to mention those greys and blacks.
Ok, let's dive into the shadows!
The Ingénue

Naïve — iridescent cream
Ingénue — brown gold glitter
Casting Couch — dark chocolate
New in Town — golden shimmer
Innocent — dark copper

The Icon

Pink Diamond — matte shell pink

Icon — wine plum shimmer

Divorcée — cool grey pearl
Hopeless Romantic — plum satin shimmer
Primadonna — amethyst purple shimmer

The Bombshell

7 Year Itch off white pearl

Bombshell — grey silver pearl

Hollywood — pewter

Maneater — rose tea shimmer
Beautymark — onyx silver shimmer

Overall, the pigmentation and textures of the shadows do not disappoint! I am also satisfied with the eyeliner and the primer. So yes, despite me living off paycheck after paycheck and spending more cash on this baby, I have no ounce of regret (says the cray makeup lady who might become homeless soon). This retails for SGD$72 normally at Sephora but thanks to the 20% discount, I got mine at $57.60 (steal!).

Do check this palette out! I recommend it for those of you who love shimmers or just those who do not own a lot of eyeshadows. This palette will satisfy your need for colour, shimmer and all that jazz.

Have a great makeup day ahead! XO.
