Oh yeah. It’s a long list of product empties. Get a snack.
As mentioned in my new skincare for March, I managed to finish my skincare routine and have embarked on a new journey that features more intriguing skincare goodies. This leads me to share with you quite a few empties this time round, a much longer one as compared to my previous Empties post. Other than skincare, I’ve been making a mental note to constantly rotate my makeup products to ensure that no product gets neglected. Thus, makeup empties are extremely difficult for me to achieve, with the exception of mascaras! I like to try out many mascaras at once and since mascaras usually have to be tossed out after 6 months, I have 5 to share with you today too.
I mentioned trying this serum out here and I have finally finished this! Even though it has serum in its name, I do believe this leans closer to being a facial essence due to its lightweight texture and its instructions to apply this before other skincare products. This is said to provide anti-aging properties, exfoliation and intense hydration. This was always my first step when applying skincare as it is extremely light weight and is great for layering. I found that this serum is extremely lightweight (consistency feels extremely similar to water) and gets absorbed almost immediately into the skin. In terms of anti-aging properties and exfoliation, I honestly can’t really tell. I do see a slight improvement in skin hydration and I also feel that applying this beforehand helps to boost the efficacy of the other skincare products applied atop it. However, the results aren’t something spectacular for me personally and I do see better results when I use other facial essences. Will I repurchase? No.
Also as mentioned in my December Skincare on Trial post, this serum is lightweight and gets absorbed into the skin almost immediately. I really do like the packaging, texture and ingredient list of this serum and I do see a slight improvement in the radiance of my skin. It does look inherently glowy when I wake up and my skin tone is more even, especially around my cheeks and forehead. I did use this in conjunction with a few other serums, but just for the texture and decent price of SGD 48, I would probably purchase it again. Would I repurchase? Yes.
I also mentioned this in My Skincare on Trial post and I do like that it is very lightweight. Formulation is a huge component of consideration for me as there is nothing more I dislike than heavy serums and textures. In concept and with its claims, this serum does sound really good but after using up this bottle, I personally don’t really see much of a difference in my skin. This could be due to my skin being used to stronger actives such as glycolic and salicylic acid, thus the effects are minimal on me. If you’re starting to thread the chemical exfoliant waters, this may be a good one for you to start as it is really gentle on the skin. It is slightly on the pricier side though, I saw that it retails for SGD 44.90 at Watsons FYI. Would I repurchase? No, as I have many other chemical exfoliants waiting for me to try.
The Ordinary Lactic Acid 10% + HA 2%
As compared to the Dr Wu serum previously mentioned, this one does pack a punch when it comes to chemically exfoliating the skin. This may be a tad strong if you’re new to chemical exfoliation, but I do find that this showed dramatic results on my skin. After using this, I realised that my skin over time became less rough and there is truly an inherent glow when I wake up. This can also be attributed to the serums that I was using that time, but I find that the efficacy of these serums are boosted when I use them along with this. This honestly works for me and is so affordable. You can get this off multiple websites but I purchased mine via Look Fantastic and Beautylish. Will I repurchase? Heck yeah, I already did.
I took a long time to finish this as this is intensely hydrating, thus I only used this about thrice a week. I reviewed this serum in this post and as mentioned in the review, this serum’s ingredient list is extremely impressive for its antioxidant protection of the skin. It does feel slightly more viscous than my other serums, but it really does provide intense hydration to the skin. My skin looks well hydrated and more plump whenever I use this. Will I repurchase? I may in the future after I run out of my enormous stash of serums.
V10 plus serums are extremely lightweight and I do like layering them over others to give me an extra boost. This Vitamin C serum gets absorbed into the skin immediately as it is extremely fluid (so much so that it can leak and run down your hands if you dispense a little too much). I do like how it layers with other skincare items and in terms of its whitening properties, I don’t personally feel that it did much for my skin. Will I repurchase? Probably not.
Wow, I bought this from Seoul (you can read about my skincare and makeup haul from Seoul here) and started using this in March last year so this lasted me almost a year! I only did use it at night though but like with most cosrx products, you do get quite a significant amount of product for the affordable price. I bought this in my attempt to test how effective snail mucin is as it is praised to no end on the internet. This power essence claims to help rejuvenate and hydrate the skin while improving damaged skin and increasing skin’s vitality. After using the entire bottle up, I honestly feel that this works great as a light moisturiser on the skin. On days where I want a boost of hydration, I would apply this before my regular moisturiser to amp it up. However, in terms of healing the skin (which snail mucin is said to be a great aid in), I did not see much of a difference. I tried applying this over some dry patches and pimples which have burst, and I did not see a huge difference in its healing time. Will I repurchase? Probably not as it mostly just hydrated my skin, which other products are also capable of.
I have mentioned this serum in this post before, and I did like it till the last drop. This serum claims to provide 7 kinds of essential vitamins to the skin and help with blemishes, dullness and photo-aging skin with freckles and pigmentation. This serum is very lightweight and gets absorbed into the skin almost immediately. The whole bottle, with daily night usage, lasted about 7 months on me and I do feel that overall, my skin looks less dull and some of the smaller and fainter pigmentations have visibly reduced in intensity. This, once again, can be a result of a combination of all the whitening serums that I’ve been incorporating in my skincare routine so I can’t specifically pinpoint which did the job best. However, I really enjoyed the consistency of this serum and the ingredient list is very impressive. Will I repurchase? For the humble price of SGD 28, I will gladly do so!
As someone who struggles with dehydrated skin, I always keep a look out for super hydrating yet lightweight moisturiser. This does work really well in providing enough hydration to my skin without weighing it down. This gel is not very viscous and after application, it does get absorbed into the skin nicely within a few minutes. One thing I am not too big a fan of is the scent of this, as the fragrance is pretty strong. This could be an agitating factor if you do have sensitive skin as well. Will I repurchase? No, as there are many other moisturisers out there that I wanna give a go.
I featured this in my September Favourites and as mentioned, even though its says water based, this sunblock is in fact silicon based due to the ingredients. I do like that it is, because it works much better with my silicon based foundations as my foundation goes atop it nicely. One aspect that I am not a huge fan of would be its texture. Like many typical sunscreens, this has a more viscous texture to it and does go onto the skin in a slight greasy way. Even though it does not leave a ghastly white cast to the skin, I am not a fan of the tackiness that remains after application. Will I repurchase? No.
I have dehydrated skin and sleeping in an air conditioned room doesn’t really benefit the skin either. Even though I know this is supposed to be used once or twice a week, I find that using this daily really helped my skin. I use this as a night cream and since its gel formation has an extremely lightweight texture to it, it doesn’t feel overly heavy on the skin. Personally, I found that using this daily really helped to boost the hydration of my skin and my skin now does have a natural glow from within. Even if you do not plan to use this daily, this sleeping mask does work well as a weekly moisture boost to the skin. Will I repurchase? Already have! I usually get mine from Althea (I found it to be cheaper than buying it in Seoul!).
This is a brow and eyelash serum that is supposed to aid in the growth of the brow hairs and eyelashes. It also contains an ingredient to help strengthen the hairs. I do have quite a bit of brow hairs, so I have been using it pretty religiously on my eyelashes at night and even though I have finished the entire tube of this, I do not really see a huge difference in the length of my eyelashes. It did not grow much at all and I am frankly quite disappointed. I also am unable to attest if my eyelashes are stronger. Will I repurchase? No.
I mentioned this clay mask in My Skincare on Trial post a few months back and I have been religiously using it. Clay masks do dry my skin out quite a bit but I found that this clay mask feels comfortable on my skin. It does a good job of removing any gunk within the superficial layers of the skin and my skin always feel so smooth and soft after. This is probably one of my favourite clay masks of all time! The only downside to it is that it’s quite difficult to find! Thus, I usually have to beg my friends who are heading to Korea to help a girl out. I did manage to find this on Qoo10 though! Will I repurchase? I already have three more tubs as a back up! That’s saying something.
This was probably the biggest mascara disappointment out of the bunch I am sharing with you today. I love Demi and I had pretty high expectations for this, no lie. This claims to provide volume and length, but I personally saw neither on my lashes after application. It darkened them (as the formulation is black) and just weighed my lashes straight down. The brush is a natural bristle one that tapers slightly at the top. Pretty standard and I did find that the brush was a little difficult for me to work with. Will I repurchase? No.
I love Essence Cosmetics mascaras. They are just top notch when it comes to their affordable price tag. I throughly enjoyed the waterproof version of the Get Big! Lashes range (blue tube and oh-so-good) so I thought I would give this Volume Curl Mascara a go. This isn’t waterproof and does work decently for an everyday mascara. The brush is pretty chunky, with tons of natural bristles and the wand is slightly curved. The curvature of the brush does not fit well with my eyes and I do find it a little challenging to apply mascara onto the lashes on both ends of my eye. This does provide volume to the lashes (with slight clumping) and it is a true black formulation. In terms of holding the curl, it did not manage to do so, but my lashes can only stay curled with waterproof formulations which this isn’t. Overall, wearing this mascara did provide sufficient definition to my lash line and it works well considering the price. Will I repurchase? No, because I am more in the love with the next one I am going to share with you.
This I Love Extreme Crazy Volume Mascara worked well (and better than the aforementioned one) as an everyday mascara for me. The brush contains mini plastic spikes that I find does help to separate my lashes better than natural bristles. However, the wand itself is pretty chunky and large, which could post a challenge for smaller eyes, but I found it pretty easy to handle. This brush also has little spikes right at the tip, making it easy to coat the lashes in the inner corner and on the lower lash line if that is a look you desire. I did find that this mascara does give me much more volume to my lashes. It is a tad clumpy but nothing over the top where you end up with 5 lashes in the end. I do like this and will I repurchase? Yes.
Compared to Essence, Ciate is definitely higher end and when I first starting trying this mascara out, I mostly knew the brand for their nail polishes. Thus, scepticism was definitely there. However, this mascara definitely exceeded my expectations. This mascara comes with a natural bristled hourglass applicator that reminded me of the Too Faced Better Than Sex Mascara. I am usually not a big fan of hourglass shaped brushes, but this wasn’t too arched so it did hug my lashes pretty well upon application. I also like that the brush wasn’t too wide or long, making it easier to manipulate and get into the hard to reach areas. This claimed to help volumise the lashes, which I found that it did. My lashes were more intense and thicker looking after a coat. Like many other mascaras which aren’t waterproof, this failed to hold my curl but that was pretty much expected. I really did enjoy this mascara but I am unsure if I would buy it again due the price. Considering that mascaras have to be tossed out every 6 months or so, buying higher end mascaras are something that I rarely do. I also find the effect to be similar to my top notch favourite, which is the Essence Lash Princess Volume Mascara. Will I repurchase? Sadly, I doubt I will.
I am never really a fan of fibre mascaras as they are a little more hassle than I would like. That being said, this mascara comes with 2 sides, the normal mascara base and one with the white fibres. I rarely use the fibre side but the mascara is so good! It gives my lashes a good amount of length of volume without being overly clumpy. I tried a few times with the white fibres, and it does add a lot more volume, but the regular side is good enough for me already. Maybelline mascara rarely disappoint me but this truly become one of my favs in the past few months. This isn’t waterproof so removal is easy peasy, but yet I found that my lashes do not point straight down even at the end of the day. Overall, this is a great everyday mascara imo. Will I repurchase? Probably!
This eyeshadow base did work great in having a layer over the lids so that eyeshadow doesn’t just flake away. It is lightweight in texture and blends extremely well on the lids in a few taps (which is a huge plus as you don’t want to be constantly tugging on the eyelids!). Due to its lightweight texture, I found that this does not have much coverage to it and thus, the veins on my lids still peeked through slightly. Did it intensify the eyeshadows applied onto it? Slightly, I would say as the shadows have something to grip onto which generally does increase their colour payoff and vibrancy. Will I repurchase? No, as a regular lightweight concealer will do the same thing imo.
Bourjois Healthy Mix Serum Foundation
For a lightweight, breathable base, this is my go to. I love how this applies and blends onto the skin! It is light-medium coverage (buildable to medium) and it sets down to a natural, slightly dewy finish on the skin which makes it look really healthy. It wears well on me throughout the day and I mostly see it breaking apart after 6 to 7 hours of wear. In terms of oil control, this isn’t the best and my oils do peek through around 3 hours. I’ll take that trade off though, as this foundation feels so comfortable and looks fresh on the skin. This is by far one of my favourite foundations that I’ve tried and even though I have not been wearing foundation for the past few months (this empties post took months in making!), I already repurchased this because I can’t live without it. Will I repurchase? Oh yeah, already did from Look Fantastic.
Phew, that was a long list. If you made it all the way till here, yay and thank you! I hope these lil tid bits helped if you were contemplating these items. These were accumulated over a period of 3-4 months, and I’m so glad that I managed to collate them all to share them with you today! I have embarked on my new skincare routine (more about that here!) and am dedicated to using and rotating my makeup products in my collection.
Are any of these your favourites? What are some products that you have finished recently?
