There are so many new skincare products to try! Besides the skincare that I recently mentioned in my lifesaver beauty products for Bali post, there are other ones that I’ve been using for a while now. I do switch up my skincare routine from time to time so as to keep things fresh. However, I’m really excited to share these items with you as my skin has improved significantly.
About 2 months ago, I was still struggling with acne and breakouts, especially around my cheek area. So, I took the plunge, and bought the Skin Inc Optimiser Voyage Tri-light++ off Zalora (it was pricey and definitely considered an investment). With this device and the serums mentioned, I have noticed that my acne has greatly reduced. I will review the Skin Inc device in a separate post as it really deserves an entire post dedicated to it! Till then, here are some of the skincare products that I’ve been testing and loving recently.
Dr Wu Glutalight Intensive Whitening Eye Serum
Dr Wu recently released a Glutalight range which is meant to target dull and uneven skin tone. I have not tried out the other products from the line, but I did give the Glutalight Intensive Whitening Eye Serum a try. This is a lightweight eye gel that targets dark circles and uneven skin tone. I like that it is in a squeeze tube which allows for easy and quick application.
As one who is worried about getting milia under the eyes due to really heavy eye creams, this eye serum hit the spot. It is extremely lightweight and blends into the skin really easily. Only a light tapping motion is required, and no tackiness is left behind. This is great as I can move straight onto applying a concealer under the eyes without having to wait! I also find that it hydrates my under eye area perfectly. My concealer does not settle much into the lines nor appear patchy (which could happen if your eye cream is too emollient, causing the concealer to slip and accumulate in certain areas). You can find out more on Dr Wu’s website here.
Vichy Liftactiv Vitamin C Freshshot Serum
Vitamin C serums play an important role in skincare as out bodies are unable to synthesise Vit C by ourselves. Vit C has 2 main abilities; it helps stimulate collagen synthesis and has antioxidant properties (thus limiting the damage due to UV exposure). I have been using the Vichy Liftactiv Vitamin C Freshshot Serum for more than a month now and I do actually see improvements in the my skin!
This serum contains 15% Pure Vitamin C and natural origin fragmented Hyaluronic Acid, to help firm the skin, reduce the appearance of fine lines and brighten the skin tone. It comes in a dark glass bottle, which is really important, as Vitamin C degrades really fast when exposed to light. The serum feels almost like water, and disappears into the skin almost immediately. I personally feel like my skin is firmer (especially around my cheek area) and I do notice that the dark spots on my cheeks due to my previous acne has been reduced quite significantly.
My conclusion is that by using this serum in combination with my Skin Inc Optimiser Voyage Tri-Light++ (a LED light facial device), my skin improved tremendously in just about a month. The Skin Inc device has a low frequency therapy which helps better absorption of skincare products and I think it helped to bring out the effects of the serum. While I can’t really say which product contributed most to the improvement of my skin, both definitely played a role. As a vitamin C serum, I really do like this one from Vichy as compared to the rest that I’ve tried. You can find out more on Vichy’s website here.
Supermood Egoboost Gentle Foaming Wash
I love a good foaming cleanser in the morning. There’s something about not having to foam up the cleanser myself! Foaming cleansers also tend to feel more gentle on the skin for me personally. The Egoboost Gentle Foaming Wash from Supermood (natural beauty brand from Finland) includes super-ingredient, Chaga mushroom, which contains tons of antioxidants, aids in skin-building and repairing pigmentation problems. Chaga mushrooms as an ingredient is really unique and rare! There is a slight natural scent to it (not sure if it is the mushroom), but I do enjoy it. It’s nothing too overpowering.
My skin feels clean, without feeling tight or dry. This foaming wash is also said to be able to remove light makeup. I have personally tried this out to remove my mascara and concealer, but wasn’t too pleased with the result (my mascara left quite a bit of smudges under the eye). However, as a gentle foaming cleanser for day and night, this one works well. You can find out more on Nordic Glow’s website here.
iUnik Tea Tree Relief Serum
I have to say, my acne has improved quite a bit too. While I mostly attribute it to the Skin Inc Optimiser mentioned above, I do think this tea tree relief serum helped. This serum from iUnik (I mentioned their other serum here) contains 67% Tea Tree Leaf Water and 19.5% Centella Asiatica Leaf Water. As Tea tree is antibacterial, antifungal and antimicrobial, it helps keep away the bacteria that cause acne. I rarely do break out now (praise!).
This serum is also water based and really lightweight. It works well as a base serum before applying other products atop of it. There is no strong scent to it (which some tea tree products can have) and I do like layering this serum for added antibacterial benefit.
AHC Premium Hydra B5 Lotion
As I have oily skin, some creams can be too heavy on my skin and cause break outs. I tend to gravitate towards lighter moisturisers these days and this lotion from AHC hits the spot. The AHC Premium Hydra B5 Lotion contains Vitamin B Panthenol and Hyaluronic Acid to help hydrate and soothe the skin. Vitamin B5 helps to promote the repair process of the skin’s natural barrier. This helps to keep the skin soft and healthy.
I usually apply this lotion after all my serums and I do use this as the last step of my night time skin care routine. It is slightly viscous when dispensed and while it takes a little while to get fully absorbed into the skin, it does not feel heavy. It blends easily on the skin. My skin can breathe and I don’t feel any tacky residue being left behind after absorption. This lotion is definitely hydrating as my skin does not feel tight or dry (and I do sleep in an air conditioned room). Lotions are a great way to go if you have oily skin and this lotion is worth giving a try. A little bit goes a long way for this! I usually dispense an amount equivalent to a 10 cent coin, and it is sufficient for my entire face and neck. You can find out more on AHC’s website.
That’s it for me in this post! I’m really happy with the improvement in my skin so far and I know that I can contribute a large part of it to my Skin Inc Optimiser Trilight device. I’ll be working on the review on that skincare device next so keep your eyes peeled for that!
